The Oakland Raiders Acquire a BOD POD® for Body Composition Assessment

The NFL's Oakland Raiders have purchased a BOD POD® Gold Standard Body Composition Tracking System from Life Measurement, Inc. The Raiders become the 15th NFL franchise to incorporate the BOD POD® device to measure players' body composition and metabolism.

Born from university research, the BOD POD® has become the practical gold standard for fast, accurate, and safe body composition analysis in the elite athletic community. NFL, collegiate, MLB, Olympic, and premier athletic programs are utilizing the BOD POD to:

* Accurately assess lean body mass and fat mass of players
* Track the effectiveness of nutrition, rehabilitation, and training programs;
* Develop individual, sport, and/or position-specific body composition goals and ranges;
* Assess caloric requirements through Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) and Total Energy Expenditure (TEE) analysis;
* Provide athletes with additional motivation and knowledge on body health;
* Accommodate a wide range of subjects (size, race, and gender).

The BOD POD® allows elite athletic programs to implement a far safer protocol of managing and tracking both fat and fat-free mass, rather than the overall weight, of their athletes. This type of analysis discourages dangerous weight management practices (dehydration or weight gain by adding suboptimal fat) and creates personalized information to improve health and performance.

NFL clients include: Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, and the Washington Redskins. In addition, the BOD POD is the official body composition assessment instrument for the NFL Scouting Combine held annually in Indianapolis.

2012 NFL Draft Preview: Who Are the Draft's Safest Picks? The NFL Draft will never be an exact science. Getting the first pick could end with a team grabbing a player like Peyton Manning and revitalizing a franchise, or picking someone like JaMarcus Russell who just wasn't cut out for the NFL. But the first pick isn't needed to get a great player. In fact, there are fantastic players that are available in every round (just ask Tom Brady). So, which ...

Newton is awarded for silencing the doubters all year long Nearly one year ago we began debating Cam Newton’s talent, and how he would transition from a simplistic Auburn shotgun, to the complex schemes of the NFL. We wondered if he could still be the same elusive, athletic quarterback when he was asked to play under center, and we wondered about his accuracy. Nearly one [...]

Several players saluted the crowd as they departed the aircraft, and some used cameras and video recorders to capture the moment and the scene.

San Francisco 49ers: 9 Biggest Draft Fails from 1992-2011 The thing about drafting is that assessing if a first-round draft pick can develop into a long-term, effective NFL player is, according to general managers, personnel directors and scouts, a crapshoot. There are legendary failures for all teams (see Akili Smith, DeMarcus Russell, et al), and the cause of the misjudgments usually not simple. It’s not the failed assessment of physical talent as ...
