Student weighs in on the NFL draft
The most exciting event in the off-season for the NFL is now complete.
The 2007 Draft turned out to be one of the most memorable drafts in recent years. There were surprising picks, many trades, and unpredictable falls for top players.
The Oakland Raiders had the number one overall pick in the draft and selected quarterback from LSU, JaMarcus Russell. JaMarcus Russell, who is the biggest quarterback in the draft, is 6'6" and weighs 265lbs.
"This was a good pick for the Oakland Raiders because that was their biggest need and they filled it," said senior Jordan Phillips.
The Detroit Lions had the most interesting pick in the whole draft. At the number two position they had so many options on what to do. They could take the best player in the draft, wide receiver Calvin Johnson, they could trade out of the number two spot and get more picks, or they could select another player. The Lions selected Johnson and received mixed reactions from their fans.
"I think this was the most interesting pick in the draft. The Lions took their fourth receiver in five years," said senior, Branden White.
The weekend also had many other exciting picks. The Dolphins needed a quarterback and were in position to pick Notre Dame star player, Brady Quinn and passed on him to get Ohio State wide receiver, Ted Ginn. Mel Keiper Jr., from ESPN, said this was the worst pick in the draft. Brady Quinn then fell all the way to number 22.
"The Dolphins made a bad choice by taking Ted Ginn. They passed on a player who was projected to be in the top 5 and their biggest need," said Wayne Blair, junior.
Now that the draft is over, fans can get ready to watch their team's new players.
