Time to play "The Devil's Advocate"
It's widely reported that OCHO CINCO aka WR CHAD JOHNSON asked to be traded from the Cinncinnati Bengals this coming season. It's time to play "The Devil's Advocate" and speculate if Chad Johnson would be a good fit on the OAKLAND RAIDERS and what would it possibly cost to acquire him?!!?
At 30 years of age, Chad Johnson is in the prime of his career with a good 4-5 more serviceable years left in him. The Raiders are lacking that one big play-maker who can not only stretch the field vertically, but make that tough catch underneath horizonatally. The Raiders are no stranger to having a brash prima-donna WR in their ranks ala Randy Moss...the difference between these two appear to be their work ethic. Whereas R.Moss complains and would just shut down and become invisible when things didn't go his way; C.Johnson from what we've seen is still a hard working individual, still prone to meltdowns, but always going like the energizer bunny. More flash than timebomb, C.Johnson would be worth the gamble.
Now that being said, what does it cost to acquire Chad Johnson from the Bengals? Perhaps the greatest sports trade debachle since Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees, a forth rounder from the Patriots was enough to lure R.Moss from underneath the Raiders. That won't happen again. Of course my biased opinion wants to keep WR R.Curry teamed with OCHO CINCO and first offer WR Jerry Porter and two mid-round draft picks. Raider Nation could live with this, Bengals fans probably want more more more!
The WR Free Agent market is slim at best...perhaps B.Berrian CHI, B.Johnson ARI, E.Wilford JAX are the top names but, if C.Johnson can be had...GO FOR IT!
With many NFL Mock Draft prognosticators forseeing RB D.McFadden falling to the Raiders, just imagine for a moment, putting aside your love for the Raiders or your hate for the Raiders, an offensive trio in Oakland for 2008 - JAMARCUS RUSSELL, DARREN MCFADDEN CHAD JOHNSON
Impressive indeed!
