Raiders' passing game still has work to do
Lane Kiffin's honesty is refreshing once again. In a conference call with local reporters Saturday, a day after Oakland' 18-6 preseason opener against San Francisco, he said he is "not confident"
that his passing game can win Oakland a game at this point.
I don't see that comment as a rip on his young quarterback JaMarcus Russell. I believe that Kiffin is looking at the big picture. He knows his receivers and pass protectors need to improve to give Russell a better chance of succeeding.
The plan this week appears to have Russell throw the ball a little more. He tossed just five passes in 16 plays against the 49ers. Russell is expected to play three or four series Friday night at Tennessee, so expect him to get more passes in as he prepares for his first full season as the Raiders' starting quarterback.
